Beautiful and totally captivating. How large an area of the camera's field of view does the diode cover? Do you aim it at a particular source? I have the impression its easy to recognise which of the lights is the source - but what about all the other lights in the image?

Excellent presentation,
These sound are very familiar to me because about three years ago I made up a photodiode lense and amplifier unit I called an "AUDIBLEVISIO" to do much the same thing.
I've listened to the mains hum (a lower 50Hz in Australia), the strobe light clicks, the air turbulence around car lights and the aircraft surface vibration heard from light reflected off turbine vibrated wings and the sharp crackle from shinny Mag wheels.
Great to see your presentation and I look forward to see others.

[...] The variety of sound produced may surprise you, considering how many of the light sources look so similar. Interestingly enough, some headlights end up sounding a lot like car/truck horns (keep an ear out for the tractor trailers). Not to be missed is the close encounter with a to truck around the 5m30s mark, and the ‘tunnel step sequencer’ @ ~7m30s. [via EricArcher.net] [...]
